"Ultra-long-range" is the most load-bearing phrase in a business jet broker's vocabulary, and it is doing more work than it can honestly carry. Between the longest and the shortest sits a gap of 2,900nm — further than a Cessna Citation Latitude, a perfectly capable midsize jet, can fly at all.

Every one of those aircraft is sold into the same conversation. A charter enquiry that says "ultra-long-range" and nothing else has narrowed the field by almost nothing.
Why the gap matters more than the label
Range is not a linear commodity. What a buyer is really purchasing is a set of city pairs that can be flown without stopping, and that set expands unevenly. The step from 5,300nm to 6,450nm opens a materially different map to the step from 7,500nm to 8,200nm, because the second step is buying margin on routes the first step already reached.
The practical consequence is that the label tells you which shelf an aircraft sits on, not whether it does the job. The question worth asking is never "is it ultra-long-range" but "does it fly my route, on my day, with my passengers and their bags, into the airports I actually use".
That last clause is where published range figures quietly stop being useful. A maximum-range number is a still-air figure under a specific set of assumptions. Headwinds, payload, runway length and reserve requirements all move it, and none of them appear in a brochure.
Where the category line falls
Instajet draws ultra-long-range at 5,500nm of published maximum range, applied consistently across the dataset. That is a convention, not a manufacturer classification, and it is worth being explicit about because it produces results that look odd at first glance.
The Gulfstream G600, at 6,600nm, and the G500, at 5,300nm, share an airframe family and a cabin cross-section. They land on opposite sides of the line. The Falcon 6X, at exactly 5,500nm, sits on it.
Any threshold produces edge cases. The alternative — letting each manufacturer's marketing decide which category its own aircraft belongs to — produces a dataset in which the label means nothing at all.
What we are not telling you
We are not publishing operating costs, charter rates or fleet counts for these aircraft, because we do not yet have a source for them we would be willing to put a name to. Manufacturers publish performance specifications; they do not publish what an hour costs. That figure comes from operator rate cards and marketplace transaction data, and until we have licensed access to it the columns stay empty rather than estimated.
